Just registered.. wanted to say hi. I will be looking at an 85 VFR 500 on Sat. It is supposed to look "brand new".. Has 17K on it. Dealer is asking $2300. Is that a good deal on a very clean VFR?

I have a few general mechanical questions too.. but I will do some hunting around on the forum before asking any stupid newbie questions that have been answered a hundred times already..

    Thanks..

    Ken

    Ken~

That sounds like an awful lot of cash for a 21 year old bike, but if it's as clean as they say, and you knock them down a couple hundred, then it sounds like a decent deal. Keep in mind, however, that I've seen 3rd gen vfr750's go for $2500 and I bought a clean 95 w/ 15k miles for $3500.
I'm new to the VFR world, so take my advice with an oversized grain of salt, and best of luck on your decision. Let us know how it turns out and post pics of your new baby when she arrives !

Don't be like me....keep that shiny side up :)

Wow.....book value is lower than I expected, however, I think with a bike that old, condition is really the most important thing. Value is quite subjective on a 21 year old bike, but it sounds like $1500 should be the top end of what you should spend on that bike. Maybe you should keep looking (i know, the summer is quickly going by). Seems like you can get into something much newer and likely better for the money you were considering spending.
Anyway, just two cents from a guy with no sense who's a little buzzed on the vicadin he got after crashing his VFR750 yesterday and breaking his ankle !

Good luck on your decision !
