Bought a brand new owner's manual for the '84 700. There's a section on starting the bike. It says: 1) Pull choke lever back (towards the seat) to fully "Open". 2) Start engine leaving throttle closed. 3) Immediately after the engine starts, operate the choke lever to keep the fast idle at 1500-2500 rpm. 4) About a half minute after the engine starts, push the choke lever forward (towards the headlight) all the way to fully closed. I'm having a problem with the terminology. To me, "fully Open" means the choke is off, and fully closed means the choke is on. There is an arrow on the choke lever housing pointing down (towards the seat). I would have figured this was choke on. Anyway I've managed to thoroughly confuse myself:redface: Why would you open the choke to start a cold engine.
The plungers are fully open when engaged and fully closed when released. Not a choke but a an enrichment circuit. If it works no need to over think it. Just saying.
