    Mornin, everyone. Just got on here as I have a '94 VFR 750 to bring up to my specs over the winter. Hoping to make some friends and share some thoughts. Thanks!

    Welcome to the forum Timothy. I had a 4th gen VFR myself a few years back and to this day still think it is one of the best bikes I have ever owned. Rode the bike for 5 years or so and the only thing that ever went wrong was the dreaded R/R failure. Put a new one on and had more than 20,000 miles of trouble free riding. Don'r forget to post up some pictures of the bike or you are sure to be hassled about it. Definite trend on the site for newbies to be hassled until they post pics. LOL

    Maybe once Timothy figures out WTF all this generation crap is about he may have some time to post some pix. It's a damn good thing Ford didn't do that with Model T's and Mustangs.

    Same deal with Honda 50 and 90 stepthoughs and thankee Jesus, over 100 years of Harleys.

    Thanks for the welcome! I have owned 9 street bikes, cruisers, sport, sport touring. I have a HD Road King that I love to ride. But after the CB919 and the Concours 14, I missed the sportier side. I picked up my '94 VFR750 pretty cheap. It's got 24k, body and tank rough, needs tires. But it runs great. Tires and a clutch lever is all it really needs, other than some cleaning and TLC. I may just ride it as a rat bike, as is. But I am gonna try to have the panels and tank repaired and painted. I may end up restoring it to a point.

    British Columbia! There must be great mountain riding there. That sounds awesome...Is it cold most of the time? And I did want to ask...what do you mean about the R/R failure?

    Yeah the mountains in BC can make for some really fun riding. We have a good selection of major highways interconnected by a bunch of smaller secondary roads that are scenic and full of twists and turns. Depending on the time of year (like the early spring rides), I can leave my house in Kelowna and it might be in the low to mid 70*F ride for thirty minutes and the temp drops to the low 40*F with snow in the ditches on the side of road, and then back up to the mid 70's another half hour later. Our riding season in Kelowna usually last from late March to early November though I have been able to ride pretty much any day of the year. December to March is usually the worst as they dump a lot of sand and gravel on the roads to help with the winter snow. The main roads in town are not usually all that bad, but some of the side streets can get wee bit slippery due to the sand so I generally ride much during those months.

    Our typical spring starts in mid April with temps in the 60's and climbs to the mid 90's by June through August (we had a lot of 100-105*F this year) and then back down to the freezing mark by late November and early December. Currently we at 58*F according to the thermometer on my back deck. If I hadn't winterized my bike last weekend (we had 8 inches of snow on the ground last week), I had thought about going for a short ride. Damn, I hate this time of year.

    The R/R I mentioned was the Regulator/Rectifier. If you search the forum for problems with the Regulator/Rectifier you are sure to find a large number of posts and suggestions on how to diagnose and repair the charging systems on the VFR. The VFR is a fantastic machine, but they do seem to have an issue with the charging system and specifically the R/R. I'm sure Badbilly would be happy to agree with me on this one. I replaced the factory R/R on my 97 VFR with a new OEM unit about a year after purchasing the bike and never had a problem with it after that. Most of the riding on my 97 VFR750 was on the highway and I just about got stranded 250 miles from home when my R/R crapped out on a ride. I had noticed for about a month prior that my speedo needle would jump all over the gauge while I was riding at a steady speed and sometimes the dash lights would flicker as well. I also noticed that if I rode around in town a lot, the battery would go dead frequently. I had a friend who owned a 94 VFR and he suggested that I check out this site for a solution and with the help of a few other members and some relatively simple diagnostics, I narrowed the problem to a faulty regulator/rectifier. Being not that adept at the time with doing electrical work I chose to replace the R/R with an OEM style unit and I attached a small computer fan to the top, and wired the fan to the rear license plate lights in an effort to help increase the airflow over the cooling fins. After that, I never had another issue with the charging system. It would certainly be a good idea to check out the charging system on your bike at some point just for peace of mind.

    I'm certain you'll enjoy bike as much as I enjoyed mine.

    The guy I bought mine from had just done a bunch of rewiring, new battery and replaced the R/R. So hopefully I will not have to deal with that. Great idea on the fan. Thanks for the run down on conditions up your way. Your season is about like ours. I live in SW Missouri, about an hour from Arkansas. Great riding there. Thanks again!
