Hi Everyone I just wanted to introduce myself and ask a couple of questions. My name is Rusty and I recently purchased a 1986 Honda VF500 Interceptor. My dad and I have been working on it for a few weeks and now we are having carb trouble. I have talked to a guy that is had his rebuilt at some shop in Indianapolis and he said it was somewhere around 800 dollars and I really don't have that kind of money to spare at the moment. If someone on here could at least point me in the right direction that would be awesome.

A few years back, I had the carbs on my 1986 VF500F torn down and rebuilt for $150 by a local shop. In addition, I bought the entire setup off eBay for $100 and put them on a 2nd VF500F that I owned. Look for a local shop that might do it or scan eBay as the carb assemblies do come up from time to time. Good luck with it.

Hi Rusty and welcome to the Madhouse:welcome:

Its great to hear you are trying to breathe life into a 500. You may however find getting parts for your VFR can be a major challenge, and like others you may find you will end up purchasing a doner bike for spares.

When you get the chance please post up a photo of your bike - folks on here like photos - its easy - choose reply - click on the insert image icon to locate, select and upload a photo.

It is also a good idea to update your forum profile (forum actions/edit profile) to include the year and specs of your VFR and a rough location - city/state is ample - that way they will appear automatically alongside your posts, and if you need help with the bike, you may find someone living nearby is willing to swing by and offer advice especially if you have a well stocked beer fridge :drink:!

    Take care

Welcome aboard. Sound like a nice project for you and your pop.

I don't know the cost, but $800 sounds outrageous. Member on this forum squirrelman (from Buffalo) seems to have a good reputation for cleaning/rebuilding - you could try to reach out to him. Or, here's a link to another thread by member toecutter that seems to be useful, even though no one likes Toe.
