I joined because I am considering the purchase of a 1986 VFR750 and want to learn all I can beforehand. Will be browsing the boards on here searching for info and welcome any suggestions or info. Ron
Thanks man, I notice that yours (and pretty much every other one I have seen online) is R/W/B. The bike i am looking at on craigslist is all blue. I dont know if they made it in blue then or a repaint. Also dont know if there were different models/versions in 86. I have seen HP ratings from 78 to 106 and not sure which to believe. How long did you take to find your bike and if you dont mind my asking, what are some specific VFR areas to look at? Thanks again
Hey Ron, welcome to the forum. I've had my 87 VFR700f2 for a little over a year and couldn't be happier. The only issues I've had, and would pay attention to are charging. I'm on my third Regulator/rectifier. Go through the bike after you buy it and check and clean all the grounds specifically. Also check all the connectors you can, sometimes they're bunt up, creating a bad connection. 86 and 87 were, in my opinion of course, the best years for the VFR, but Im biased. Oh and my bike was solid Pearl white, it's in the process of getting a paint job though. Good luck on your choice.
Welcome to the boards! I could be 100% wrong but weren't the 750's all RWB? Anyways it is a great bike that you surely wouldn't be disappointed with if you bought it.
Thank you. I am trying to create a steep learning curve here cuz I am guessing this bike may not last long at $1600 obo, and I generally like to analyze things before I buy. All help is greatly appreciated.
86' should of all been RWB I think. 87 came in a dark blue. Mine was on Craigslist locally so it worked out well. Just went to look at, not intending to like it that much. Test rode it and brought her home. The plastics are fragile so be carefull and the before mentioned reg/rec problems. MIne was already upgraded and she hasn't gave me a one problem other than a sticky start switch, headlight doesn't always come on but and extra tap on the switch and off I go. Great bikes
