So as part of recovering the bike from my recent Deer vs VFR incident I needed to replace the headlight housing, everything came apart easily and without drama but now the nose fairing/front cowl wont snap back in place on the new headlight unit. Has anyone else experienced this?

in troubleshooting the problem, I took the windscreen and the two small black plastic covers off from behind the windscreen, the front cowl goes on fine then. I believe what I am seeing amounts to a tolerance stacking issue but I thought I would check in here before I take a razor and start trimming plastic!

I have had mine off & on a lot when fiddling with LED headlights. Make sure no wires are caught between fairing and cross bar where pins go. I also put a pad on top of fender to keep from scratching it if fairing slips.

When you say no wires between the fairing and cross bar, you mean the painted cowl and the part of the headlight it snaps into?

On mine it is like the I cant quite push it far enough onto the headlight to get those white snaps back in the slots.

Here a view of the back of headlight assembly. Did you get center tabs stacked correctly. right headlight on top of left.

I use LED lights, so I had custom harnesses for connections, the wires used to get in the way.

No wonder I didn't get it when you posted before...vfr1200 here. That is a 6th gen headlight correct?

My headlight goes on fine, 4 screws and done, it is the nose cover that is an issue.

Solved the mystery, turns out the replacement headlight unit came with some, but not all of the rubber bushings/spacers that it should have. I didn't catch it because I was tired as hell working on the bike on Sunday. Now all is good and she will be back on the road by the end of the week!
