My dad rode at some point in his younger days, as I saw pictures of a Honda 305 that he rebuilt and painted in the back room of our Navy housing in California back in the sixties. By the time I started riding on the street in my 30's, dad had decided he was too old to pick it back up. I'm hoping my son will get another bike so that I can do some riding with him. I'm currently 53 years old (I've already had several people tell me I'm too damn old to be riding a bike like that) so I have to think my days of riding are limited. I plan to ride until I'm not comfortable with it, and the least I can do is pass on my love of 2 wheel transport so someday my kids might go for a ride and think about the old man with a smile.

I have a buddy that is 66ish. He won't tell me, but I'd remember a few years back, he said he was going to receive his first social se unity check. He rides a KTM 2 stroke dirt bike very, very well. I can't keep up. He broke his leg a few years ago. He healed.

I see old dudes on the trike conversions, and I always think to myself, Way to go! You go dude!

My old man hated motorcycles. Quite honestly, he wasn't all that fond of me either.

Never too old to ride. Where there's a will there's a way.

My dad rode when he was younger, but never wanted me on a bike. First, we were poor. Second, he's a cop, so I'm sure he's seen some gruesome things. My wife and I bought my daughter a PW50 that I need to rebuild. She's five now, so I guess I need to get on it. She wants to ride with me on my bike, but I'm not sure how she's going to take to her own.

@Deckrat, I'm 63 and heading to the track this weekend (1st rode on the track at 56). So, you're still a 'spring chicken' in a manner of speaking. Taught my wife how to ride long ago. She never asked me to get rid of my bike even after the kids came along, but she quit riding her own bike. She continued to ride with me until her health failed. My son rode until recently getting too busy with school, and my daughter rides with me on occasion (not so much since moving away).

And somewhat related, to a passion for riding anyway, this guy is awe inspiring if you haven't seen him:

Don't get me wrong, I feel completely comfortable with my ability to ride. As a matter of fact, I feel better on the bike than I do off of it. I have seen many people online who ride well into their 60's and beyond so I know that it CAN be done confidently and safely. But I also know that someday I will have to give it up and that's a bit of a bummer.

Until then however, I plan on riding the guts out of this VFR for many more years before I hand the keys over someday to one of my sons, or maybe even one of theirs.

    Very cool thread start, Deckrat.

My son rode my VFR for the first time about a month ago. He has both a Ninja 250 for the street, and a RM250 for the woods.
He was pretty impressed with how smooth and powerful the VFR is. But then, I knew he would be.

I have never encouraged anybody to ride a bike, that is their choice, if they decide they want to then I will help them, but it is not something I want to influence people to do
