Hey guys, I have a '98 with 27k miles on it, I just got it from a dealership last month, and I'm absolutely loving it. I have a high-mount two-bros exhaust and the previous owner chopped the tail a bit (looks nice) but other than that I think it's all stock. I read that most people find the smoothest ride to be between 6k and 8k, but my bike, almost entirely at higher speeds (5th and 6th gear, 6th being 90-120 mph ish), develops a pretty noticeable vibe through the whole bike at those rpms, and the vibe goes away over 9k (ish). I'm a wildman, and I like 100mph, and aside from that the bike shouldn't be doing that, so what should I look for to reduce or eliminate these vibes?
I have the same bike and sometimes i get up there too. I dont really notice the same vibs you are talking about. Once I felt vibs in the pegs, but bought Honda peg weights to take care of that - it worked. The only other maybe I could think of is the chain. Is it original or replacement? MD
I have no idea. Considering the mileage on the bike I would think it wouldn't be the "original" chain. I checked the tension the first weekend I had it and it seems to be right on, and the sprocket teeth look straight. It seems to be more of an engine thing, not a chain/suspension/tire thing. I can feel the vibes at lower speeds in that rpm band too, but they really make the bike shake at higher speeds. edit; I should also add that I am having absolutely no power loss. In fact, I can wheelie with only the slightest provocation with a 6.5k roll-on. Me weighing 120 pounds might have something to do with that though.
