engine removal help

    Is there an easy way to remove the rear lower and rear upper engine mounting bolts without the "special tool"?
    Are all the parts of the engine mounting bolt removed counter clockwise? (the all threaded part, the lock nut with four notches in it, the bolt itself pushed right through).
    bike is 1993
