I was wondering what ways you guys have broken in your engines. My last two 6 gen VFR bikes I have broken the engines in by riding it around and doing the normal stuff. I am thinking about doing this one on a dyno. Pro's/con's. I can't ride my bike for a few more months due to the crappy white stuff being all over the place.:canada:

Well if you're on your THIRD 6th gen due to engine failure, you're method of break in is probably wrong. lol

I wouldn't go with the Dyno break in just because dyno time isn't cheap... it probably wouldn't be super detrimental to the bike -- there are some people that swear "ride it like you stole it" is the proper break in procedure... I'm not so sure about that ... others will chime in with how the VFR would respond to such. I can imagine it's probably pretty frustrating having a new bike sitting in the garage with no roads to ride it on -- sounds like you need a fun AWD car to play with ;)

300 miles, not past 62 MPH. Can't remember the RPM, but that is in 6th gear. 62 sloooow MPH.

follow Hondas instructions to the letter. It works every time and in the very unlikely event you have an engine related issue, you can assert that you followed the instructions in the owners manual. I had an issue on one of my bikes that leveraged this strategy with a very effective and positive outcome for me.

Think about it - probably $50M went into the R&D of the 1200 - you going to trust some internet jamoke for better advice than honda? doubtful.

ps. I am guessing $50M, based on reading that aprilia put $23M in on the RSV4

I just did what I would normaly do, ride it, I babyed it for the first few hundred, just to loosen things up. its now got less than 5k on the clock and has seen the redline a few times, both on the tach and speedo. last oil change didnt has more than the usual metal bits comming out.

Yes I broke mine in by the manual. Except I errored on the side of caution. I was told not to go above 6500 rpm (before the V-tech kicked in). I took it only to 6000. The mechanic told me to run it like that till I hit 800 miles then come in for the oil change which I did. I had read about the V-tech but never experienced it till after the oil change. I asked if it was cool now to run it up and my mechanic said "have fun," and then WWWHHHOOOOOAAAAAA NNNEEEELLLLLEEEEYYY!!

First VFR was sold due to moving to Canada from the UK and the second VFR which was a 2007 and by June 2009 I had put 19000KM on it. This one is also a 2007 that I found in the States and has 9KM. I just want it ready to go for April.
I do have my fun car as well, Subaru Impreza with full winter tires for this time of year.

Like most here, I rode mine very gingerly for the 600 mile break-in period. I did not take into VTEC range at all. I changed the oil at 300 miles, then again at the 600 mile mark. It probably wasn't necessary, but then I'm sure it didn't hurt either. At the 300 mile oil change, I switch to a semi-synthetic oil, but that truly is whole another can of worms .................

I went to the shop that has the bike, ( the VFR now has Avon Storm ST fitted, Scorpio I900 and the GPS has been hard wired in) that would also have done the dyno and asked the guy if he had a new bike would he break the engine in this way and he said no. He has done new bikes for customers when they have asked for it but he would not do his own bike this way.
