Got a stupid little kit once in a gas station when my Cherokee got 2 flat tires on a 3 hours drive once. Fixed it in the station parking lot and when I arrived safely forgot about it. a year later was changing the tire out ( life of tread had gone ) low and behold there was the plug! Must have worked fine and I even had to read the instructions.

    Crupsky,

When you spring for the sixty bucks for the kit they also send you a DVD of the chica in the vid who demonstrates how to fix the tire. She does it topless.

Options? Ride the bike to a shop on a flat tire and screw up your bike and maybe even get a ticket for one of several California Vehicle Code violations under the heading of "stupid things to do."

Buy a new tire on line and maybe starve to death waiting for it because it was sent to your house and not where you are stranded away from any source of Jo-jos.

Call Toe Cutter and whine for a care package.

See if you can get one of the kits with the nitrous oxide cylinders instead of the carbon dioxide cylinders. They are good for making whipped cream and if you have some left over you can just laugh it off if you bust a knuckle trying to DIY.

Ok ...seriously....I carry a plug kit and two c02 cartridges. Plugs work well and c02 is just enough to get by until real air can be had. Only had to use it once.

I have a cell phone, pay $10 a year, and call 1-800-PROGRESSIVE. If I can't get a signal, I hike till I can and they will pick me up. Covers more than just flat tires. It covers all fluids, including gas. I just have to pay for the repair, which I would have to do anyway. Of course if I have friends near by, they get a call first.

For the record, Progressive gives a $10 discount for being part of HRCA (Honda Riders Club of America). It is free to become a silver member and you just have to create an account on the website. If you do your insurance online it asks for your HRCA member number. If you call them and speak over the phone, they don't ask for the number. Doing this is killing two birds with one stone. You get info from HRCA online and the dicount means you can get the roadside assistance without paying more for it.

Waiting for BP to chime in since this involves tires.

    Real Saints do tires. ;)

Same here with the kits and the deal with Progressive and the HRC. IMO everyone should read what the deal is on whatever tires they are running.

    Hey Mr Crusty!

I use the emergency repair kit from "Geniune Innovations". It has served me well....once in the middle of the desert out of cell range. I have AAA, and from several experiences (one was for Doc Long's bike) they aren't worth a bucket of piss in customer service and most importantly....getting to you in less than a day. Also, as was stated, it depends on the size of the hole, but if you gots a big enough plug to fill the whole, you be da man!

I actually have the atv repair kit (only one at the M/C shop when I bought it years ago), but I buy extra CO2 cartridges at my local bicycle shop for extras....it takes at least 4 of the 12-16 oz size to do the job.

Thanks for the useful comments (some of you) i was asking cause I know what I have, two options AAA and the emergency kit with the CO2...

As far as AAA being a pain? Really? I have always had good service from them.. I guess the area I have needed them wasn't in the middle of the desert, but they have always been there in the time that they said.

I asked this cause the question came up in chat yesterday with Marrib....

Maybe the guy from AAA will have one of those pricy kits you can borrow.

Doesn't anybody carry a front and rear spare with them? Just hang them around your neck. Also act as a poor man's air bag.

Seriously now, I carry the following. I've only used the pump so far.

Looks like a cool rig except for those cheesy battery connectors. Someday somebody sharp is gonna start making some the right size for bikes that work more than twice and make some serious bucks. Damn..I have cables I carry in my car that whupass on an Arkansas snapping turtle.

Hanging tires around somebodys neck in some parts is called necklacing. Popular in parts of of South Africa.

This actually was not in the desert...one of the issues with AAA. Ask Doc Long about it sometime. Doesn't matter really, each person has their own preference. I still have them, but will mostly just for the cars, as I will use whatever means necessary before I will give in to calling them again.

I will put it this way......count on yourself first, and somebody else (like AAA or a friend) if all else fails. With a flat, I could be on the side of the road for hours and hours before a tow company comes, or if it is temporarily fixable, I can plug it and be in my way in minutes.
