just bought the bike and the previous owner used wax not oil for the chain, so i bought some today and it says to clean the chain before applying the wax

how do YOU clean your chain( rag, product? etc) and how often do you do this to max the life and effect of the chain

    Thanks

Have always used Kerosene soaked Chux Wipes, not sure if they affect tyre rubber but have always taken care not to allow the Kero to splash on them.

wd-40 works as a solvent pretty well.

Wd40 on the rag to wipe it down, not on the chain. Then chain wax it afterwards. For me I also on around the 3rd-4th time I even go to the trouble and use a penetrating Teflon lube then chain wax, seems to be working really well. Do we need to show photos of our chain? :)
