My 2010 VFR1200F has 6700 miles and excessive driveshaft play/backlash, resulting in jerky movement between on/off throttle. With the rear wheel raised, I measure 1.5" in free wheel rotation between stop points. By comparison my '94 Goldwing and '03 Moto Guzzi V11 LeMans have almost no driveshaft play.

The driveshaft recall has been done and the bike is otherwise in excellent condition.

Honda's shop manual indicates if backlash is excessive to replace the final drive ring gear shim with a smaller one.

Before I disassemble the final drive and driveshaft for inspection, how have other owners reduced this driveline play?

Thanks in advance for your advice,
    Bill
