My backpack is pretty full for school..Im getting my new aviation headsets in soon and it comes with an ASA case/bag for it. I was thinking about turning it into a magnetic tank bag. Are there any specific features I should try and achieve? Obviously get some magnets...but any specific things I should do to make sure it stays on the tank? I have looked at tank bags down at the local shop before, but never actually gave it a good inspection to see any specific design for them. I thought maybe just getting 3-4 magnets and securing them inside the bag? I guess I just want to make sure the thing is secure. Thanks. Mike-

If you can find them, computer Hard Drive magnets are really strong! You'll definitely want to have whatever fabric that touches the tank be the softest/smoothest material you can find. Good luck with your project!

I was thinking maybe something like this -----> Amazon.com: Applied Magnets ® 6-pc N52 Neodymium Magnets 3/4" x 1/8" Discs: Home & Kitchen Really strong magnets so i can cover them in soft cloth, then mount them in the bag - so that the cloth reduces the power a little and it can grab the tank with a more cushioned force. I dont know if I can find old hard drives - I wouldnt even know where to start! I wish there was just a really powerful soft sheet of magnet, that would be ideal.

Thats a good idea..maybe then it would prevent any kind of bigger magnet just clonking the tank really hard by accident.

Are you intending to then carry the headset case inside your aircraft? - Be aware that the magnets may have an effect on your instrumentation, depending on where you stow the bag.

    What are you flying, BTW?

Which headset are you buying? - I use the Sennheiser S-1, which is fantastic. The downside is that people using those shitty David Clark headsets can't hear as well as I can and they always turn the internal volume up too loud.

Nah I dont have to carry the case on.

Im in helicopter school, flying Robinson 22's right now - and R44's later in training. What about you?

The headset I bought is actually a David Clark lol. Its just a standard H10-13H model, which im using right now - the school has a number of these as loaners - and they do a good job. The only thing is that they are kind of beat up, and I can see the difference in some of them that are a little more beat up and dont have foam on the mics, kind of beat up ear seals, etc. So im looking forward to getting mine in. I got a killer deal on the headset ($100!! used only a few hours - like new) and I figure as a student I can use them for the next year and even if I dont like them 2-3 months down the line, $100 wasnt a bad price to lose out on. They can always be a passenger set later. My instructor uses lightspeed zulu 2's and we never have any problems with volume while I use the david clarks.

Im having a pretty good time in school. Studying a ton! But also flying 5 days a week. I only have about 11-12 hours so far, but I got hovering down pretty well and just starting to get my approaches down better. Im pretty comfortable with normal takeoffs and cruising at altitude by now.

Sorry im getting off topic but im pretty stoked about flying right now lol
