    Hey all,
I am planning a ride from southern California to Barber motorsports park for the Vintage event in October, I have an 86 VFR and would appreciate anyone's insight into what spares I should consider buying to take along, also anybody's thoughts on Gear to take and good routes to take and things to see across the south.

    Thanks happy riding

My advice is to start the trip with new tires and chain. Take a tire repair kit, plus tools, a flashlight, zip ties and bailing wire. Make sure your cell phone is charged. Beyond that most everything that happens to 1st gen bikes can't be fixed beside the road.

I did that trip from Dallas to Birmingham and it's a lot of pine trees. Barber Vintage days are fantastic and well worth the trip. I really want to go back.

Southern route? Well... Grand Canyon is all I can think of... Depending on the route you take there may be some places to turn off and hit some old Rt. 66 towns but those get a little old fast. Once you get past AZ, look forward to flat roads and boring scenery. Wish I had better news...

Yep, I just got done going from Dallas to Colorado and back. It was 750 miles there and only the last 50 could be considered fun. The road was so straight and flat that on the first curve in 200 miles I felt a rising panic like I wouldn't be able to negotiate it! Boring hot and more boring. New Mexico is more of the same.

This is me in over 100 degree heat in the shade of a grain elevator. it was the only shade in 30 miles (until the next town and the next grain elevator). There was no adventure only endurance.

Thanks to all that responded, I have now bought some gear, modified the route and am getting excited, I have heard that the Gen 1 bikes had common rectifier failure, any input??
