I remember a long time ago Suzuki had a stator overheat problem and part of the dealer fix was to drill out an oil hole for more cooling oil spray into the alternator housing. I see lots of people giving attention to stators, but I don't see any posts regarding cooling the stator. I would suggest making sure the new stator is in good thermal contact with the cover and that oil spray onto the stator isn't blocked by wires, etc. As you can see, one side of the stator looks new, the other side is cooked. Why? The electrical load is supposed to be evenly distributed. Was one of the yellow wires open, leaving 1/3 of the coils offline and placing the whole load on the rest? Was cooling oil not getting to half? Something wasn't right...

Cleaning up my old 83 VF750 today and took the fuel pump/ rectifier assembly out, and sure enough Honda used a smaller 3 pin connector on the stator wires and it was showing signs of corrosion!!! You think they would have learned after 30 years that system doesn't hold up!

As long as they last out the warranty, it isn't Hondas problem
