So... I finally got around to buying the little plastic covers that go over the passenger grab bar holes for my semi-new (but used) viffer. I took the handles out today and uuurgh- there are black marks (scratches!) right under. Now, I've clipped the silver covers on but am sooo dissapointed (the scratches are black, and fairly big- an inch or so long and fairly wide). Looks like friction from use of the handles.

Any advice (touch up paint, anything that will minimize this)? My bike is the silver 02.

    Thanks!

I bought touch up paint from ebay that matched the italian red almost perfectly. it was $17 plus shiping and applies with a nail polish like applicator. Silver may be a little harder to match with the metal flake, but it should hide the scratches somewhat. I'll see if I can find the company name. I looked at colorrite.com also but they were a little higher but I hear they match excellent also. cyclesurge.com is the name. It worked ok for me. I actually put before and after pics in the member gallery.

Thanks for the links... however couldn't find the silver 02 colour.... also struck out on ebay. Good news, I was abe to rub some of the black marks from the grab bars off! Still scratch marks on both sides though.

Two replies... getting a better response! I was starting to think that nobody cared about my poor, injured bike! I am not sure if the 02 and 03 are the same shade of silver. I'll have to check with the parts center at Cycle World to find out, which I will do this week. I can't say I'm too keen on doing the touch-ups myself though... even after reading some of the how-to threads on this site. First things first, find matching paint.

you know, after doing it myself, I wish I had at least stopped by a body shop and asked them what they would charge. especially if I brought them the matched paint. It would have come out much betterI'm sure. It makes the scratched area unnoticeable UNLESS you know they are there, then BAM your eyes go right to it! hehehe

But reg, If you had done that then you would not have gained knowlede thru doing. lol.

    WVFR:

I must have been looking it up on the color rite site while you were busy. nothing wrong with work and I gree it does get in the way. lol

VFR Girl, There should be a point code under your seat on the subframe and should match the code in the first column on the color rite site.

VFRGIRL...I drop my bike last month and gain some scars on my bike. I went to Cycle World in the west end asking for a color match...but they do not supply the matching paint. They directed me to Cawthra Automotive and I was able to get a color match. I posted a pic in the photo gallery The website for the paint .....www.cawthraautomotive.com Bring a sample of a color of your bike and they will be able to match color..

A bit late, I know, but...

The Color Rite "Force Silver" touch up paint is what you need.
I bought a "pen" of theirs for my silver '03.

They are distributed in Canada by Best buy Auto Parts in Quebec.
    Go here: http://www.colorrite.com/contact_us.php
    to get the deets.

Hey Rob, do you by chance have the colour code for your bike? Just want to make sure the 02s and the 03s are the same shade of silver...

    Thanks in advance!

Did you order these items on the net? If so, do you have a link? I am keen to remove my passenger grab bars and would be interested to know the cost of these.

Sorry to post off topic btw.

    honda sells touch up paint

You could go to a Honda Dealer and buy the correct touch up paint. It is a good idea to befriend the parts manager. It may be more expensive but nothing is too good for my baby.

I actually picked them up the peices for grab bar holes at my local motorcycle shop... can't see where you're from but if you're in the US I'd think Honda Powersports would have them, or if you're from Canada whatever bike shop you go to will be able to order them. They're really inexpensive and I think taking them off makes the bike look waaaay better (just my perspective). I think I paid less than 10 or 15 dollars for both of them.

Thanks all for your responses on the paint guys....

PS Agreed, I'd rather spend the big bucks and have it look right! Anyway looks like it won't be a prob to find the paint once I get my ass in gear...

If the scratches aren't to deep you can polish them out with some compound.

I agree with the previous reply...before going to the expense of painting it may just compound out...I would try that first, especially after you said some of it just rubbed off. ...you may save yourself a lot of gas money.
