Hi all, just booking in as I'm a newbie to the group. My names Alan and I live in Newcastle upon Tyne in the uk. I've ridden bikes since 87 which have included ZZR600, VN750. RF900, GSXR600, R1100RT, and now my latest acquisition, the VFR800 Vtec (A6). With the exception of the VFR, all the bikes have been bought new, and therefore any servicing etc was always carried out by a dealer. However, life changes and thanks to the Tax Man so has my disposable income. Which in turn means I now try to do as much of the minor stuff as I can. That should read "with my mate", who has recently passed his direct access and after seeing my Vtec, has also got one himself. I've been away from the saddle for about 8 years as my son was going through his early days, but ast year I just had to get back on a bike. I always fancied the VFR, and the reviews they have had over the years have been astonishing, so the VFR it was.

I don't know if this is the right place to be posting about problems, but I dare say, if I'm wrong someone will hopefully nudge me the correct way.

I have recently carried out the 24K service which turned out to be easier than I initially suspected, and once I got my head round the infamous Honda fasteners all was put back together again - Success.

I then went on to fit heated grips - success.

All was well until about a week ago when for some unforeseen reason she just doesn't want to fire up in the morning or after she's been standing for a few hours. She does eventually fire up after some feathering of the throttle, but this doesn't seem right. After she kicks up she settles on about 2k whist the choke is doing its thing, then settles down to normal tick over in due course. I've checked the battery which is giving 12.4 off, 10.6 on crank then boosts to 14 when revved gently. I've had the plugs out at the weekend and although a little oily (I think they're the originals) they didn't seem worn or damaged in any way. I'm not quite sure in which direction to go now so if anyone's got some helpful advice it really would be appreciated. I really don't want to put her into a dealer unless I really have to, the prices are rediculous. I look forward to some advice. Thanx

Welcome Cracker. Two things that you may want to do here...Post pic(s) of your ride and give more details about your bike. Most guys put their bike info in their profile, but when asking questions it's always good to put that info in the thread. I'm sure more people will chime in here soon. Expect a lot flak about no picture though...

    Cheers!

    Cracka, pleeez!

But seriously, give us a few more details on the bike and a little bit more about the problem. There are plenty of folks with tons of experience turning a wrench, and I'm sure we can get you going in the right direction.
