Back into Motorcycling after taking a long break to raise some kids.

In a moment of weakness I bought an 08 ST1300. SWMBO demanded a comfy, level seat and a back rest. It is a wonderfull bike and is as fast as I am but its just alittle big for commuting duty...

So, I'm looking for something to park beside my STeed in the Garage. I saw a 2007 VFR in matching dark red (faSTeST color for the ST) and fell in love but the price was alittle above my comfort level.

Anyway, I'll be lurking in the tech section for a spell trying to find out what this bikes weak spots are. (I know, its a Honda, fuel, oil and tires occasionally and go for a ride!)

Hopefully I'll see ya'll out there!

    Weak spots...hmmm...

They tend to go through a lot of gas, oil, and tires. The valve adjustments are pricey with the VTEC valves being shim attached to bucket. But then again, valve adjustments aren't entirely necessary, it's a HONDA!

Truly, my only complaint is the suspension. She gets unsettled far too easy when having fun.

Your story is the opposite of mine. I bought my '07 six years ago now and this past year, I was thinking about getting rid of it to buy an ST1300. After looking at the ST at the dealer, I came to the conclusion that it was bigger and heavier than what I wanted. I decided to buy the OEM saddlebags and convert the 800 to more of a tourer. I'm glad I did. The bike is much more functional now for 2-up riding. It is a near perfect machine. My biggest gripe with the stock bike is the FI mapping which can be fixed by installing a Power Commander. Good luck and let us know if you pull the trigger on the VFR. You won't regret it because it is a Honda.

    Hotbrakes....

Thanks for the reply. As with any motorcycle, if you spend enough money you can fix any problem! Thanks for the reply.

stewartj239, I just finished reading your thread and was thinking the same thing....Same problem at different ends.
The ST isnt that heavy once she's rolling and is alot more nimble in the twisties then her 800 pound wieght would suggest. If ya need help picking out a used ST let me know I'll hook ya up. Otherwise your mods are exactly what I'll do to mine.....(I was actually thinking Corbin Beatle bags till I priced them!!!)

Thankyou to for the reply. I hope to see both of ya'll "out there!"

If the 6th Gen is what you're looking for and the '07 was out of your price range, don't forget that you can go all the back to 2002. It is pretty much the same bike with very few changes. They are readily available and can be had for less than $5K. Good luck and let us know if you find anything worth looking at.
