Clutch or Not ?

Hi, I'm fairly new round here, so excuse me if I go about this the wrong way. I have a VFR750fr she has about 75,000 miles on the clock but is developing a worrying rattle, when idling at the lights in neutral there is a rattling noise that disappears when I pull the clutch, seems to be coming from the top end. I know this is a very general description but I wondered if anyone had any experience of something similar with these.

Try to find out exactly where the noise is comming from. An old shade tree mechanic trick is to use a short piece of hose as a stethoscope. Does it make the noise in gear, just in neutral or both?

 

I know that the VFR will make a light rattling noise coming from inside the left front fairing ,and maybe a touch of vibration with the clutch out. This will stop once the clutch lever is pulled in. Perhaps the effect is more pronounced after the bike gets as many miles as yours does. I'm not sure what the exact cause of this is but my mechanic has said to me that all of them do it to one extent or another and that it is nothing to worry about.

Not sure if that's your issue or not, but it sounds like it may be nothing.

 

If it's what I believe you are talking about, 99% of all bikes have it, some more and some less, it's like what havcar said with your mileage things are probably getting lose now, if it's the clutch mechanism not really anything to lose sleep over. go listen to other bikes clutch in and out in neutral, you'll be surprised.
