Peregrin asked what I meant by "fake Harleys". I wasn't refering to Harley poseurs because no marque has the patent on boobs (people, not mammeries).

I ride an FXD as well as my VFR 750 and others. A fake Harley to me is any V-Twin that pretends to be a Harley, or any V-Twin (particularly the Tiwanese made RevTech, or any fradulent H-D that wasn't made by the motor company)! If it wasn't made by the motor company, it's not a Harley.

I find that the worst Harley poseurs ride bogus Harleys and tend to knock Bona-fide japanese scooters, as well as real Harleys.

My wife's Shadow has more heritage than any kit bike!

If anyone can show me evidence that the RevTech is US made, I'll stand corrected.

I'm getting less tolerent in my old age.:peace:

Nope, RevTech is definetly built in Tiawan & not to take away from your opinion that it is a poser motor. They actually seem to have made some very good improvements to the old EVO motor. You can also bet that Harley sold the rights to produce this engine to RevTech or its parent company. So what does that say, it says Harley is a company that is interested in making money & surviving in a world economy. Do you also know that before Porshe agreed to design & build the VROD motor that Honda was strongly considered & did actually agree to build it. The board decided that, that would be more of a departure than its fan base could handle. I also know one person that owns about 40 bikes some factory Harleys, a Buell, a Honda 954RR(I think dont remember the exact model, it just was supposed be the fastest production model a few years back, pre BUSA I would assume), a handful of Ness bikes & 15 or so custom built bikes he put together himself. He doesn't consider his customs to be Harleys, there customs. Some have Harley motors most have S&S. Customized bikes have always been cooler & more respected in the Old School biker culture whether it was a Harley, Triumph, BSA, Norton or whatever. I would tend to have more respect for someone that builds their own bike, crafts & customizes to fit their dream or idea. Than some clown that has money & not much else going for them that spends 20K+ on bike & then spends another 10K+ putting easily available trinkets on it. Harley rider, Custom rider, Metric cruiser rider, sport bike rider who really cares, Just ride & let others enjoy their ride the way the want to ride. Like all else in life we are bound to run into people we don't like & don't agree w/ but hey if they ride they can't be all bad. :peace:

I will add though that people that have bikes & don't ride them or barely ride them that like to act like big, bad biker dudes annoy the hell out me regardless of what they own.

    No fake Harley's for me

As you can see from my profile, I have several bikes. But my Harley is a real Harley.

If I want an antiquated push-rod V-Twin, I'll be damned if it will be a knock off. A Chinese V-Twin, no thanks! I don't care if it's the best fake Harley engine ever built, and as a 4th generation Harley guy, don't pull that "Bad-ass" biker BS on me.

By the way, Porsche has been involved w/ the Knucklehead, Pan, Shovel, and Evo.

The liquid cooled VRod non-withstanding, If you're developing an air-cooled design, you can do a lot worse than Porsche Design. I've said that no marque has a patent on assholes, but the "kit bike crowd" certainly have their fair share.

By the way, I know people who ride that are all bad!

Legs, As far as the bad ass biker comment, I have met & befriended a few of the hardest core Harley guys you could ever meet some of the greatest people I know, what I said I had a problem w/ occasional riders that just love to play the part & generally take things to far. Or the super rich guys(the bulk of your glam'ed up kit bike crowd) that have entitlement issues to begin with. I can respect the ones that do there own work as said before, the others??? The Revtech, I just noted the improvments from an engineering stand point, If I ever do build the custom I want it will either have a Harley motor or an S&S. Or maybe just do the road king or fat boy thing both bikes I have ridden & like for what they are. I didn't know Porsche had been involved in the past designs, but now I do so thanks. I would also agree w/ the no marque has a patent on assholes. I just ran into my fair share over the holiday weekend, there was probably a few kit bike riders in there as well I don't know.

The title of my other post is Closed Minded Harley People, I would not consider you to be one of those you seem to appreciate motorcycles; thats the place I think most of should reside.

    Legs,

I'm second generation myself. My dad owned a bar called "Fat Bob's" down in Shannon, MS when I was a kid. We got a lot of "" real bikers in there. They were always super nice to me, but then again, they were friends of my dad. I was riding on the tank of Dad's chopper when I was still in diapers. Some of my fondest motorcycle memories are Dad riding the whole family on his superglide...all 4 of us. The wind would part his beard while we rode and it would be forked when we'd stop. I do remember a lot of the guys were prejudiced especially against cops and rednecks, but they did catch a lot of flak from both those groups. I'm sure if we ever saw those guys any more they'd give me hell for riding a "" rice burner, but they'd still ride with me. I also remember that they absolutely hated when a japanese company made a v-twin that looked and even worse sounded like a harley. One thing about this topic is no matter how many times I see it come up over the years, it always generates traffic.
