Changed Spark Plugs

Hello All, I have a 99 VFR and love it. I got the bike in Oct. of 2006, got a manual for Christmas and since then have changed the brakes and spark plugs "by the book". Pretty hairy sometimes because I have no car. I only ride the bike so if I screw something up I'm up a creek:third: . Gone well so far. Just finished the spark plug change about a half hour ago. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone could give me a heads up on the symptoms I would see if I did something wrong. After putting the new spark plugs in I turned it on and it started right up. Since it had been a few hours since I last rode it I pulled the choke down and it reved up but, seemed about 500RPMs short of where it usually is (2500 as opposed to 3000). I dropped the choke and it idled smooth at 1200. Took it out for a spin and it seemed more responsive than before the plugs were changed. That's about it. Really glad I found this site.

 

Welcome to the group todd. As I have found from my experiences (mostly with cars) if you do something wrong in changing the plugs it either won't run or it will run very poorly. Sounds like you did it right. I am sure someone else can probably provide a better answer than me. I just tinker myself. lol

 

Sounds like you did them right. The plugs are always a concern, but for no reason. If you gapped them all the same and they went in right there should be no problem.

 

May I ask why you changed the plugs? I have a '99 bought in November and my mechanic says he may be able to tell the "history" of the bike when changing the plugs but the bike runs fine as is so I'm kinda not wanting to change them in the first place. What real difference did it make?
