Narrowed my search to a 2005 VFR800 or a 2006 Buell Ulysses. VFR wins hands down in smoothness and handling. The last chain drive motorcycle I owned was a 1974 Honda CB750. (in 1974) What is the expected chain life of a VFR? I understand this depends on how the bike is ridden, I am just looking for a ball park figure. Also, how about sprocket life? This is a fantastic site and any input will be greatly appreciated
My bike has nearly 45000 on the same chain and sprocket (unless the prior owner changed it. I don't remember him ever mentioning it, though)
My '00 had 27,000km on the clock when I bought it, don't know if it has the same chain/sprockets from new. It's booked in for the 72,000km service this Friday. Same chain & sprockets the whole time time I've had the bike, at 66,000km the dealer said it would need new chain & sprockets at the next service.
I changed out the origanals on my gen II @ around 30K; new set seems to wearing pretty fast though(I went w/ sunstars & a Tsubaki chain, possibly my own damn fault)
