My 92 vfr750 chain was at 2+ inches, so I went to adjust it today. The book recommends 5/8 to an inch of play. I was able to adjust it barely but the teeth on the part that the spanner wrench fits on are shot and the spanner wrench keeps slipping off. What is this part called and where can I order it?

It's your rear hub, part 5 in the diagram ,the whole things made from an alloy so the teeth are soft.
When I rebuilt mine I reprofiled them with a file.

How many miles on the chain ?? OEM chains are usually worn out by 25,000 miles, and i'd suspect that if yours developed alot of slack, it may need replacement.:distress:

Be sure to check chain slack at several points along its length, and set proper tension (about 1", not less) at the tightest spot you find. Tension should be checked while rear wheel is on the ground, not on centerstand.

Is there a practical way of doing this? (If you have a tight spot)

Same deal for a tight spot or slack..

The adjustment only takes a couple of minutes. Have someone sit on the bike.
