The rear key latch for removing the seat is broken. There's tension on the spring but it is not moving the latch that holds the seat cowl on. I can pry up the seat cowl a half inch to see underneath but can't get any tools in the slot.

Has anybody ever had to deal with this? I'll destroy the seat cowl if I have to but I'm hoping I'm missing something.

    Thanks,

    Mike

You don't say which generation but on all the gear driven cam bikes (86-01) the seat latch is released via a cable.

Check you can still get a replacement cable.

Last resort is to cut the cable, pull off the outer and then use grips pull on the inner cable.

From memory the lock unit is fitted using security bolts.

    2015 VFR. I don't think it's a cable.

Yes just looked at owners manual. Completely different to my VFR750 and VFR800Fi
Hopefully someone will be along soon with knowledge of these newer bikes.

On my 8th Gen the key directly releases the catch holding the rear of the pillion seat allowing it to slide forward.

If the key is turning it sounds like something has moved under the seat and preventing the seat moving.
