I'd like to get some better braking out of this bike. What are options that some of you veteran owners have done?

I see this every now and then. My VFR has the best brakes I have ever had on any bike. Better than my CBR and I track that. I have put 30k miles on my '75 GL1000 and that has HORRIBLE brakes. Like wood on the rim. If you are having brake problems I would look into the system further for bubbles, etc. Unless it is issues with the linked system. Then I dunno, still getting used to that.

No there's nothing damaged with the brakes. They work correctly. But I am spoiled with Brembos on my Duc. I've always hated the Japanese bike brakes.
I know that I can exchange the lines and pads. I've changed out them on other bikes and have never been all that impressed with the difference. Doesn't mean it won't help this bike, I'm wiling to try.

I'm curious what brands of the different parts you've all tried with results? And if anyone has changed out major components with good results? I know I'll never get MotoGP bike results, but I'm shooting for a little better braking.

I'll have to admit up front that I love the brakes on the VFR, best I've ever had, and with the HH pads and steel brake lines, they are fantastic. The only con I can come up with is that they are bit "sudden", when I apply the brakes it's almost like throwing out an anchor. It would be very easy to overwhelm the front wheel in a panic stop.

I'm really curious as to what, in your mind, constitutes "better braking"? No criticism intended, but it seems to me that better braking can be defined in many different ways, and I'm wondering what you're looking for. Maybe just the undefinable "feel".

Can confirm, test road a 1098, I will agree, those brakes were insane. I also got pulled over on that test ride. :congratulatory:

    You are spoiled.

I also went with EBC HH pads and steel braided lines on both VFRs and stopping is really good, but appears better on the 5 Gen. Bleeding the lines is a bit of a chore on either bike but crucial to good performance.

I did bleed mine not to long ago and I felt like they had a better feel after that. I don't think mine had ever been done and I pulled out a lot of crappy looking fluid. Would like to do the pads on mine too but they have a lot of life left so I am giving them a little more time.
