I have had problems with the '98 VFR front rotors warping. Has anyone else experienced this, and are there any suggestions for after market rotors? Doc
Hi Doc, When I bought my '98 the right front rotor was obviously warped or bent. The bike only had 6500 miles on it. Instead of replacing both rotors, I just bought a new OEM Honda for the right since the left was still in very good shape. It worked out fine for me. Best prices for OEM are either RonAyers or Service Honda. Cant really help on the aftermarket stuff. A goofy tidbit is I have heard of warping rotors by guys who use brake locks - do you? Good luck MD BTW there are quite a few '98's here ---
The guy who taught our USAF Sport Bike Course said Galfer Wave rotors will make you feel all warm & fuzzy. For $550 & the requirement to use Galfer & ONLY Galfer brake pads, they better. KC-10 FE out... lane: :usa2:
I just bought some EBC Pro-Contour ("wave"-type) rotors for my '97 that were close outs. Also coupled it with some EBC "HH" pads. I'm sure this will do the trick for me once I get 'em on.
aftter the ones on my '98 warped, I went with the Galfer Wave rotors, but I didn't try any others, so I can't compare and contrast them with anything else
I have brought a 2000 model that had it`s right rotor replaced at 13,000klms. because it was warped. weird that it is the right one on most others as well.
Doc,I use aftermarket wave rotors on all my bikes. They have a few distinct advantages over stock rotors, they're lighter in weight, they run cooler, they're self cleaning, they provide better stopping power, and imho they just plain look good. I sent along a few pics to give you an idea of what different manufacturers wave rotors look like. The first pic is a Braking Wave Rotor on my VFR800. Second pic is a StarRotor on my RC51. Third pic is a Moto Master Flame Rotor on my 900ss. Fourth pic is the Galfer Wave rotor that KC-10 FE mentioned. Fifth pic is an EBC Pro-Lite Contour that Pdiz mentioned. About the only downside to wave rotors is that they're expensive. Coupled with a good set of braided steel brake lines and HH sintered brake pads, wave rotors can go a long way toward making a good braking system great. Wave rotors are just one option available to you Doc,there's tons of different brands and styles out there for you to choose from. Hope this helps you. Good Luck with your search.
