I have a 94 vfr. I recently (4 times now ) on long rides have had my bike shut down at idle in heavy trafic or a stop light, without being able to restart without jumping it or rolling starting it which it will do. If I wait till the bike cools down 1-2 hours it starts right back up no problem. battery reads 12.45.
This seems only to be happpening now when its hot outside.
Any thoughts?? shop says start replacing everthing and that will cure the problem even though they have no idea what ti is.

Sounds like a regulator rectifier but you should do a web search on Electrolux and go to their website they have an excellent electrical troubleshooting guide for motorcycles. Just don't buy an RR from them they suck stick with a geniune honda one.

Don't ever do process of elimination to your electrical system it could cost you a fortune invest in a good meter reader and troubleshoot. Check all of your wires carefully for shorts too, but I have to say this sounds like the RR. The guide will tell you what a good reading is for your RR. It can take a long time to troubleshoot electrical problems but it's cheaper then just starting to replace everything.
