Again, I've seen other designs out there but felt that they sat too high for my liking. The one I've seen goes on top of the grab bars and and allows removal of th seat while it's still on. Awesome design, just not what I want.

I wanted something that sits really close to me as well as very close to the seat. Also, I really dislike the grab bars so I didnt want to rely on them for mounting.

So, I came up with this prototype. Definately not the finished product but good for use as a pattern.

Here are a bunch of pics:

I noticed that mount in the photos of your paint job earlier, LOL! Is the Givi side bag mounting system different from the Givi made, Honda system? I noticed that you don't have the supports that run from the grab handles down to the side rack, did you eliminate these too?

The mounts are different. IMHO the Honda units suck and are ugly. My opinion though, not intended to start a flame war :)

Based upon what I see in you pictures, I'm going to have to agree with you. I wonder if the Honda bags would fit those racks, hmmmmmm...............

Wesley: I have the Honda mounts... they are... not as custom as yours. I'll give your mount system the nod over the factory mounts when you hit them with the same grey metallic as the rest of your ride. Until then, I'll stick with the stockers... (now if I could weld... hmmm)

The Honda bags are much nicer looking than the Givis. That being said, the mounting system of the Givi is more secure. I have a Honda bag in my shop right now that I'm repainting after it came off a friends bike on the freeway.

The Honda bags combine the opening mechanism with the latch mechanism. So, every time you open the bag you need to ensure that you didnt unlatch them from the bike.

The Givi setup operates them independantly.

    My opinions:
-Honda bags are nicer and fit in tighter to the bike
-Givi racks are prettier and equally sturdy
    -Givi mounting mechanism is superior
-Givi is easier to color match (color pieces come off for painting)
-Givi bags are less susceptable to scratching as there isnt any paint on the bottom of the bags
-Givi is < 1/2 the price

That mount looks pretty nice. I had a similar idea. I chose to go with the "rack type", so that I could remove the tail bag and haul odd shaped cargo, like...say a bag of cement or a celing fan, should the need arise.
