So I have a leaky float bowl on Carb 2. Took my Clymers manual and started the tedious process of getting to the carbs. After following all the steps.....I can't get the $)(*# carbs to come off the bike. It's like they're glued on. I sprayed some WD-40 to see if the boots would loosen but to no avail. Anyone have any wisdom on getting these babies off my bike? It's time to ride and I'm itching......

heaT on the boots will help. be sure to loosen clamps on both ends of boots. rock and roll is another key to removal, after you stRT pulling on one corner at the rear, then the other. After the reAr carbs are out you can more eaSsily get the fronts. WD-40 spray should help.

Just sometimes--although it should be avoided if possible--some careful prying is needed, with a plastic or wood hammer or screwdriver handle between valve cover and carb, just under the vacuum cap.

first you need to barely get the assembly to rock around, then start pulling eACH CORNER Up. after seeing initial movement, rocking and pulling should prove sufficient.

be sure not to remove carbs from baseplate, as it's usually unnecessary.

    it's never an easy job.

rule of thumb says it takes 3 or 4 times longer to replace carbs than remove them :disturbed:

Follow squirreman's instructions, but do your self a favor and order a new set of rubber boots, yours are old and hard. Don't bother trying to reuse them. I got mine from partzilla.com. I remove clamps completely and use a screw driver to pry the boots away from carbs and squirt the WD-40 in there. Due to the geometry of the V carbs, they are hard to get off to begin with. If the old rubber is stuck to carbs or throats, it makes it damn near impossible, got to free up the boots.

Work a 90 degree o-ring pick between the boot and carb and run it around the neck to break the seal. Did it today.
