    Hey Everyone,

New to VFRWorld and thought I would post about a particular issue I'm having in finding a right lower that will work on the 95 VFR.

I posted in the classifieds looking for a set or just the right lower and thought I would check with the knowledge base here for alternatives.

    Situation:

Sent my forks to RT last week to have serviced and upgraded. They called me yesterday to tell that the good set that I thought I had sent them was in fact not good. AJ at RT told me that the right lower is slightly bent at a point on the exterior that looked like a nick or small gouge, and will not allow them to fully compress with the new parts installed. Before I sent them I checked to make sure they would compress and rebound at the same rate. Tested and the right had a slight variation in compression and chalked it up as worn out and need to be serviced. Looked them over and they seemed to be okay and on the right exterior lower noticing the small nick or gouge that RT had noticed. Anyway the right lower needs to be replaced. Checked out the price and it is around $240 shipped to RT. The issue is that they are on back order with no release date. That could mean a few weeks to a few months. The last time I had ordered a back ordered part it took over three months. Can't wait that long! They are sitting there with about 30 mins of work left to install the right lower, test, set and then can be shipped to me!

    Question:

    What options do I have?
Which lowers are compatible with the 95 VFR?
(Remember that RT has one complete and the other is just sitting there waiting to be reinstalled.)
Can I send them one from another year, 94-97 or should I hold out until I get the right one (95)?
I was under the impression that they are pretty much the same. The manuals depict the years from 90-on to be the same, but from what I have heard and vaguely remember that there are slight differences. For example, the 95 that I am familiar with have the drain at the bottom of the lower just above the axle pinch bolt. I seem to remember seeing this on other years as well, but cannot be positive and it has been too long since I have worked on others.

Anyway thanks in advance for your help!

Even a small ding on the outside can effect the inside, so look for any year gen 4 part from a salvage yard......

The part number for all the 4th gen. '94-'97 right side fork sliders is exactly the same 51420-MZ7-013. It was used on all four model years that the bike was built.

I just went back to HDL to check on that and came back to post it and you beat me to it. Thank you guys for the reply.
Even so...it is still on back order and I could use some help on finding a good salvage yard that would carry such a thing. Hint, Hint.
