I'm building this into a race bike. Have any ideas on getting a bigger/better rad to fit? I don't have close access to a wrecking yard to try rads from different bikes. Or, a custom built rad maybe? I don't plan on modifying the engine that much, but it will be seeing the upper end of the tach most of the time and I "hear" these bikes can run on the warmer side. I can live with the oem rad for now if I have to, but I have a year or so to mess with it.

    Thanks,

    TimV

I'm curious. What type or class will you be racing in?

It's vintage racing. In our club(VRRA in Canada), it's called Period 4 Formula 1. Max year is 1989. The plan is to use it for Endurance racing at first.

What you heard probably doesn't apply.:beguiled:

VFRs of any vintage mostly overheat at very low speeds, in traffic, not on a racetrack with an unmodified engine. Try it and see.

when I rode all the time it was always in the upper range and that is not where the overheating occurred, squirrelman is correct.

With Squirrel as well, as long as your moving you can ring it's neck and be just fine.

let us know when and where you will be racing and get pics. I'd like
to hit Cantire (Mosport) raceway and catch the racing this year.

The VRRA is at CTMP Aug 22, 23, 24 this year. I wont be racing, and I haven't decided if I'll be there yet. Too early to tell...

What Toe said, if you are racing and your radiator is within spec you should have no problems wit overheating.
Stop and go traffic on a hot day is what you have to worry about.
