I'm looking to restore my 86 VF500 back to stock colours and decals. I'm wondering if anyone out there with one of those bikes could tell me the sizes (Length and Height) of the decals I'll need. I plan on painting the stripes on, so I won't need those decals. I really need the size for the side covers, the wings, and the bottom cowl.
    Thanks

Wow, for the cost of a decal set I think it would be much easier just to go that route. Is there a particular reason you want to paint them on?

Well, first off the cheapest decal set I can find including the stripes is about $200, without the stripes it'll cost about $80. Plus the whole bike needs a repaint anyway, as the PO did a rough sand on it then primered and painted it black. Its a really bad paint job to boot. And for the extra little amount of paint I'll need to paint the stripes on it just seems easier. If you know of an easier way, or a place to find a cheaper full decal set, please, let me know.

I finally had enough time to get all the body work painted and finished. It looks just like new, and all the stripes are painted on, not decals.

The paint looks great, lets see it all put back together. I have always had a soft spot for those 86 500's!
