I just bought an 85 with the hopes of turning it into something cool. I have always liked the bike and have never owned a sport bike before and when I saw this one I loved it. (as a fun project)

    Questions

    1. I saw on here that a guy eliminated his rear fender, I did that and it looks awesome, but my question is, I want to put a more modern turn signal mounted on the plastic just under to the left and right of the taillight, and on the front as well. Will an after market LED turn signal work? I want to eliminate the metal arms the OEM signals mount on.

    2. The lower radiator had a plastic drain plug that had a leak and when I went to take it off to drain the coolant, the nut snapped off because someone broke it and JB welded it back together. Will a metal one be sufficient?

    3. I was thinking of eliminating the slip on exhaust and going with a more aggressive straight pipe. Is this a bad idea?

as for the straight pipe... I don't think it's a very good Idea. I have been in the process of changing my exhaust, and I ran it with no muffler just to see how it sounds, and it was bad. It didn't even sound good at all, and ran terribly. you may be interested in what I am using for my exhaust. From ebay, the Delkevik SS70 for the kawasaki ninja 500 (dual mufflers, like on the interceptor). They seem to be pretty well built. i found out that the mid pipes are too long for the interceptor, so I emailed customer support, and they are going to send me midpipes from the ninja 250 in direct exchange for the 500 midpipes. I bet they would do the same thing for you if you wanted. You will need a reducer on each side of the collector box because the outlet is 1 3/4'' and the the inlet to the ninja 250 pipes is 1 5/8". It seems like the exhausts will just bolt right on then. I don't have the 250 midpipes in yet, but once i do, I will have pics. You will also have to rejet if you change the exhausts at all. it's extremely important.

Welcome aboard! As to the turn signals, all you have to do is swap out the flasher for an electronic unit. Stock turn signals depend on the resistance in the bulbs to regulate the flash.
