Hi everyone, I recently bought an 84 VF750S, and love the bike for what I use it for. Although it has a nasty engine tick, which sounds like valvetrain noise. It clicks in unison with engine RPM. I had it apart last night to check valve clearances and found one gap was way out. After reassembly the noise remained.... Nothing seemed abnormal inside, and nothing was loose or damaged, minus a small amount of scoring on the r/h side of the from exhaust cam (which was the same side that had the excessive gap/0.007"). The clicking sounds like its coming from the L/H front exhaust, which I found with the 1/4"drive extension stethescope trick. I went over the whole bike and checked/tightened everything I could find to cancel out the chance of something else rattling. Any other ideas as to what this could be, or what I could check? I know a little valvetrain noise is normal, but this one area sounds off from the rest. Thanks in advance!
sounds like the cam lobe and forked rocker are worn out. Proper technique in gapping the valves is important or you will still get noise. Important to measure the height of the lobe. Any marking on the lobe journal = BAD.
