Hello all, I'm starting on a basket case 84 VF500. I'm looking at the frame and see damage.
What i'm wondering is, does anyone have a clear close up pic of a 84 VF500 frame (mostly right side engine cradle) so that i might better guage the extent of the damage?
    Thanks

I don't have any handy but if you get us pictures of your frame we could probably tell you.

Thanks for your reply Jake, I already know that water at some point entered the right hand tube, froze and busted it ,just like a household water pipe. I'll get a picture on here soon. Still, I'd like to find a picture to reference as I make repairs.

I have a mostly-stripped frame sitting next to me here in my dining room (don't ask...) What exactly do you want pictures of?

I've got a frame with pretty much everything stripped off. Once you post photos of the damage, I can take matching photos of my frame. This way we won't be chasing our tails trying to get the right pictures.

Those are just the type photos I was looking for. The dimple there just behind the fairing mount tab is one place i had a question about. I'm working on getting my frame pics on. From that view mine looks OK except for the swollen split tube. Thanks mtl_vf500

On this topic, Honda issued a Service Bulletin back in the day regarding water infiltration and possible damage to the lower frame rails:

Yep, if you look around at VF500's you'll see this quite a bit. It's obvious when the square tube becomes round at the bottom of the frame! I've ridden 500's like that for many years without a problem, so it's not something to get worked up about.

Update on frame, I've got it hammered back pretty square and will stitch up the split tommorrow.
I hope to get it sandblasted and powder coated next week or the following. Also going tank hunting tomorrow.
That should be fun. Oh well, only got a $100 bucks in this pile of parts.
