Well, Hi I'm Kris, aka Keeper of Windsor CMC 017
I have an 83 750 Magna in wonderful condition with about 120 thou on it which I decided to try synthetic oil in. After the initial complaint last thankgiving, she ran great till a month ago. Now someone tells me it's too clean to try 20/50wieght before cracking it open to check my chains n valve clearances, what does any one here think? It sounds like a clatter bucket, I'm sure the chains r loose, but.... For years now it has had a slight tick at start up then turns to a soft purr, no more soft purr after warm up.

slight tick normal 20/50 might do the trick
w/ 120,000 on the od might as well open her up and do valves and ck cam chain.
it is after all your bike so if you feel it is time then just do it.
( if it where their bike they would as well )

Switch to Amsoil Synthetic if you can get it. NO additives. Synthetics do not shear, have polymers that break down and last much longer.

For a definitive dissertation on synthetic lubricants for types of vehicles, read "Motor Oils and Engine Lubrication" By Dave Mann

    http://orangeroads.files.wordpress.c...-engineers.pdf

    Specifically:
Will synthetic oil cause the wet clutch in my motorcycle to slip?

Whether the oil is a petroleum oil or synthetic is not the issue here. As stated previously, synthetic oil is not more “slippery” than petroleum oil. Both petroleum oil and synthetic oil for automotive use has friction modifiers blended in, which are typically not compatible with wet clutch applications. There are motorcycle specific oils blended specifically for motorcycle applications with wet clutches that should be used in motorcycles. These lubricants do not have any friction modifiers blended in.
