As much as the seller can get. Short of that, nearly everyone has an idea of what their bike or bikes are worth and the point becomes subjective. This also depends on the bike. I have one bike that is nearly 40 years old. I get offers of twice what I paid for it.

Kind of depends where you are in Canada, time of year, private party or dealer transaction and on..

Check out the Canadian sites that have valuations for cars and bikes. Lots of Canadians on this forum for where to go for that. Same goes for US vehicle valuation sites. KBB ect.

    Cash talks.

Huh... For refference overseas in spain they are on the range of 1500 to 3500 EUR (2000 to 5000 CAD)... I bought a wrecked one for 1400 eur (not a good deal as i spent more than other 1500 EUR repairing) but a least i know every single bolt on the bike and they know me... And we made a deal of mutual careship

Like BB said there's a wide range in this version, some that are near perfect will fetch good money $4-5k+ then there's the other side of the coin. I've seen em barely running for a grand or less. Best thing to do to get a good idea is grasp a cycle trader and start looking. inter net ain't a bad way to go using google as your friend. just to give an opinion here, I'd say anything in the $2800 to $3600 depending on condition, history, extras, would be as close as I'd say for starters, then there's what the owner think its worth, truly is a what the market will bare.

Thanks. One guy wants over 5K. Won't even talk about it. He's not even in the ballpark compared to others with the same extras and km's

That's not all that surprising, some VFR owners love their machine, rightly so with some of them. As it is, I wouldn't entertain anything less than $6k for mine ;) But then it ain't your average vfr either, so yea.

I just checked cycletrader and there are currently fifteen 5th gens ('98-'01) for sale in the USA with asking prices ranging from a low of $2,500 to a high of $4,750. The lowest mileage among these has 22,000 miles and has an asking price of $4,300. Many of them are priced at $2,999. This info might not be at all relevant to you in Canada obviously - good luck in your search!

Haha, well, the most valuable 5th Gens are the lowest-mileage ones that are closest to stock condition. What did you do to yours?

Not to rail this off track, you asked. Besides the exhaust, with a Staintune, De linked front brakes, with CBR calibers, full on DMR front suspension, including a triple clicker Penske rear shock, tuned to the hilt with a PC3. More to come when we figure what the better route to go is in things that make it run greater than great. . Then there's the 8 spoke wheel ;) That's not a hop up, as it weighs more, but sure does look pretty. I have a Corbin "if and when" personally, I don't care for it, but for passengers, it's better. I'll add not from me, but from others that see the viffer swear it's new. It Just rolled 36k. When comparing new 014 and newer machines today to what I have, those being in the same area of user friendliness they're in the $12-14K range minimum, mine at $6k is still a deal.
Now, I've been teasing with the idea of trading the Viffer in on a new Tuono. Told em if we ain't in the ball park at $5k for my VFR, I ain't interested, guess what, they called back. So now the ball is in my court in the way of a good test it out outing. We will see, for the money it's hard to beat a VFR. so at that they're telling me $5k ain't out of the question again we will see.

I have mine listed for $2000 and the best offer I have is $1200 without even coming to see the bike. Luckily I don't really give 2 shits if I sell it. My bike is a 98 with 93000 mi so most people are scared off by that. Hell, I'd take it on 2000 mi trip right now as I know it and am comfortable with it.

I'd have to check oot KBB to see what the 91 mach one is worth including the eight spoke wheel. I am so convinced that it is worth untold numbers of pesos, even though it's wet and windy here, I have no fear in heading oot to Wal*Mart for my daily pilgrimage/homage to consumerism.

Well, if a dealer wants to triple the trade-in value of good VFRs and give you $5K, I say pounce on it! The market just isn't there at those prices; my 15K-mile '00 is as nice as it gets (really, especially after just-now full refurb and Daugherty, R/R, powdercoat, being completely apart for cleaning, etc.), and I'd likely struggle to get $4K.

Hinshaw's in Auburn now has this excellent stocker with 4K miles fopr $3K: https://seattle.craigslist.org/skc/mcd/6148058517.html

RVFR has a nice bike, low mileage, lots of farkles and super clean and obviously cared by a responsible guy. When a dealer starts with some figure( 5K in this case) being not out of the question on a trade in for a superbike, it's time to say "show me the money." I'd be doing some serious homework on what those new Tuonos cost at aboot six places, then get it in black and white or better yet green. SOS.. We are on their turf and in this biz, if ya think home field or court has an advantage, in this scenario it's a fact.

All of the above does not apply if trading in a VFR at any price to a Harley dealer. Their BlueBook says any bike other than a Harley is a POS.

Don't sell your self short there my friend, these 5th gens have a nitch market. Yea, you could have to wait as the average joe looking at VFRs are just Motorcyclists.

Now as 91 Mach1s go, those too have a certain following. There's a re tired military fellow here just down the street that has one, that, and two more different years, he drives around in a newer one all the time, see em at our local convenient lottery establishment. never seen em at the Wal Mart though. Yea he likes his Mustangs. LOL On a side note, he also has a low boy in the back of the garage.

Dude, you are fast becoming the Kelly Anne Conway of VFR World.

See if the dude who is waving that 5K at you as a trade for that Tuono will fork it over in cash and include say three other dealers asking prices for the Tuono.

I had a Mustang a long time ago. I was in the military, I did not retire from the military. Maybe the dude down the street goes to Wal*Mart more than you think. I'd ask him to be sure.

I really hope your odds are better doing this new bike deal are better than the lottery.
