I just got a new-to-me 2000 vfr with 16,000 mi. The bike had a full tank and sat for a year. I sniffed it and it didn't smell bad so I ran the fuel down and filled it with fresh premium.

    1) Given that the fuel sat so long, should I add some fuel injector cleaner? Is it ok for the bike?

    2) Being a 2000 how will the new BS ethanol fuel effect the engine? Should I be using a marine fuel stabilizer that specifically counters the effects of ethanol?

    3) what are your thoughts on winter storage? I'm thinking full tank, fuel stabilizer and the occasional winter ride if we get a nice day over 45 as we frequently do in New Jersey.

    4) never had an injected bike before...anything else I should know?

And while I'm at it, I'd like to take a moment to thank the US government for simultaneously increasing my fuel prices and food prices with this ethanol horse sh*t. Only our fine crew of lawmakers could, in one fell swoop, placate the treehuggers, deliver a massive subsidy to agribusinesses and give every citizen a complimentary proctological exam.

I think I might run some fuel injector cleaner for a tank or two.

As for the rest, I can't say because I usually don't pay any attention to what I put in the tank. If I see it's largely ethanol I'll move on, but honestly I don't pay much mind. Cheap low octane fuel. Never let me down yet.

Run some Seafoam or Lucas fuel treatment (WalMart) through it before you store for the winter. Store with a full tank & Sta-Bil fuel treatment. Fuel injection doesn't require anything different.

53G, I got the new-to-me 1999 this year as well.

Someone at the Honda dealer hinted that high octane gas has less ethanol in it than low octane gas. I cannot verify that, and it is quite confusing that different gasoline brands have different mixes. (Given all of our regulation and the need for an engine to run well I find this notion frustrating.) So wherever you can get empirical evidence, then follow it to minimize the ethanol intake of your bike. Once you make your decision to minimize ethanol then there is no sense in worrying any more about it.

+1 to TNRabbit, that's what I do with mine. Also our bike only require 87 gas.. anything higher octane only hits your wallet, doesn't help performance or mpg!!

87 eh?...guess I skipped that part in the manual.
I have a house in VT and the local station gets their 91 from a Canadian distributor....no ethanol which is great for my boat and the plethora of small engines in the barn.

No options like that in NJ. Thanks guys !
