hey all, just bought a 2006 interceptor! loving everybit of it. but i noticed lots of people without power commanders are getting close to or more than 40 mpg with six gen bikes. Im only getting about 34. other than two bros pipes mine is stock. i was just hoping for some advice on how to get more out of it. when i checked it i wasnt riding very hard. ( hardly any vtech ) but the bike only has 1100 miles on it, i thought engine break in might be a factor. please give any info you can. thanks and be safe.

You're seriously only getting 34mpg? Im getting 37 from my Superhawk... and the Hawk has 2 huge carbs on it.

Im getting about 38 out of my 2005. Some VTEC and spirited riding. I believe my thermosthat is working correctly because it will hover around 170 when warmed up and moving, leading me to believe its a 170 thermo. Alot of guys here say that a stuck open thermo will cause a drop in MPG. Maybe that is your problem?

On average, my '07 gets about 42. If you take a lot of short trips and the motor doesn't spend a lot of time at operating temperature, that will definitely affect things. And a lot of throttle opening, even if you short-shift (pre-VTEC), will eat some fuel.

There is a thread here somewhere with average mileage compiled. It is worth finding to have some reference.

My 04 with gutted stock cans and now just crome tips and no mufflers, gets 42 average. If doing all freeway, cruising at 70-75, I average 50-52 mpg. I did have a bad thermostat, and bike would run at 155-165 on cool nights. My milage was in the high 30's, about 36-38 mpg. Make sure your bike runs at 170 or above. Mine never drops below 170 now, even if out riding in 30 degree weather. Good luck.
