Welcome T ! You have a tough decision. I have owned both the 4th and the 5th gen. The 4th has more unique look and character, IMO, but has carbs which are smooth but need to be kept clean. The '99 being injected is a little easier to fire up and ride, as you don't need to play with the choke/enricher as much. I'm 6'2" and fit a little better on the 5th gen. I like the 180 rear on the 5th as well, more tire choices. If money isn't too tight, I'd look at the one owner, low mile 5th. Ride both - see what your gut tells ya.

tough call, but I'd prob go for the 99 if you have the extra dough. you'll appreciate the aftermarket seat and the added ease of FI is a bonus if you add a pipe and need to tweak the injection. not sure where you are located, but the hand warmers might be a big plus also. Re: the other bike: also, 8 owners is a lot of different people to trust to do maintenance. there might be some reason it has been sold so many times. VFRs are usually kept for a long time in my experience.

welcome to the forum! You have a tough decision but I'm sure you can't go wrong either way. I have never riden a 4th gen but I do own the 5th gen and I love it. I would probably opt for the 5th if the budget allowed it, IMHO. Good luck...
