    Hey,

New to the VFR world but always liked the bikes. I am looking at picking up a 96 VFR750F with about 30000kms on it. There is some very minor road rash but other than some tires it looks pretty good. Is there anything I should be looking at on this bike? What are peoples experience with them? Are they reliable and maintenance freindly?

    Any info is appreciated....

Bullet proof except for regulators.Body work expensive and hard to come by.

He's right, you will have a hard time getting things for your 96, assuming there easier to find than stuff for my 93.

Hit the button before I was ready...

If you are wanting to fix the bits of road rash you speak of, mine has a few spots that aren't bad but drive me nuts, I might be getting some new fairings from airtech-streamlining.com. I have asked around here and there and no one seems to know anything about airtech's products. Maybe I just posted in the wrong spot???

I've heard Airtech is pretty good, but they are a bit expensive, and make to order so it will be about a 3 week lead time. I am ordering some bodywork from them for my project so I'll know in another couple of weeks, but I've heard good things about them.

As far as the bike, I really like my '95, but have only owned it since November. With the gear driven cams (that sound great in my opinion) you won't have to worry about cam chain adjustments, and people put loads of miles on these bikes, 100k miles plus, so if treated well it'll return the favor. The body is pretty fragile though, described as 'house of cards' by someone (forget who), but I like the VFR so much I got a second:)

Yeah, let me know on Airtech. I am really wanting to buy the piece from them for my 93. I found a few other sites but I am not sure what I am looking at or looking for. I actually looked at buying an 06 Ceptor but settled on a VTX instead. Kinda wish I would have bought the ceptor on some days but thats why I decided to keep my 93.

Service Honda says they still have parts available, but yes slowly getting a bit more of a task than say 5 years ago. Still one hell of a machine, I say I hope you get it.

Hey RVFR, when you order parts from service honda, do they come painted and drilled or do you still have to do that?

yep, shes a great bike. being a little longer in the tooth than a 5 or 6 gen you just need to be prepared to put up with fixing a few probs from time to time.
this is the same for any bike thats starting to get 10+ years old with moderate or greater mileage. you tend to get minor niggles to deal with.

I've owned my 94 for nearly 12 years now and I've never regretted a second of it. Parts aren't too hard to find if you know where to look. Lots of parts still show up on ebay, and Service Honda is an excellent resource. I bought a left upper fairing from them last spring for about $300 shipped; all I had to do was bolt it on, and the color matched perfectly.

Watch the R/R (voltage regulator) as they have a tendency to go out on these bikes. Depending on what maintenance records you get with it, you should consider changing all fluids and filters, and it's probably due for a valve check and a carb sync.
