really simple question: does the 1987 vfr700f2 gauge cluster have back lighting?

I only ask because I drove it for the first time at night tonight, and the only lights i could see were neutral, oil, fuel, and the left and right turn signals.

If there are lights for speedometer, tach, and temp gauge, then they are not working and I def need to fix them.

yeah there are several little peanut bulbs throughout the dash. theyre actually easily replacable once you have full access to the back of the dash assembly.

here's a pic of what youre looking for: http://tinyurl.com/3gsj7cg

i cant remember exactly how many there are in the dash assembly as a whole, probably close to a dozen.

Find the multi-pin connector that sends power to those bulbs and clean the contacts.

ok thanks guys. Yeah those lights along with my running tail light are not working, although all other lights including break lights are working. Tail light only comes on when i turn power on, but on bike start up, no dice. Ill have to see if i missed a connection somewhere when reassembling it.

I know EXACTLY how to fix your problem, so see and heed my advice above. Find the one connector plug and begin work.

Once plugs are apart, use a wirebrush, sandpaper and contact cleaner to remove oxidation layer from contacts.
