I was headed home the other day and all the sudden I lost power because my chain snapped. After looking down I noticed oil pouring out of the bottom of the motor. I can't see exactly where its coming from without taking a bunch of stuff apart. it looks like it could be coming from above the Front sprocket. I was just wondering what could have Caused the chain to snap at the same time it also sprung a leak . Any idea on what it could be. I figure this is a long shot unless someone has had the same problem and knows what I'm talking about.

Sorry but my guess is the chain has punched a hole in the case, this could get ugly

Unfortunately that's prolly the exact case. Pun intended. Chain material: hardened steel.
Case material : not hardened steel.

Good news. I was able to take the bike apart last weekend and found out there is no hole in the crankcase. However I did find that the oil is coming out around the seal of the clutch lifter rod ..the rod does not appear to be bent..I am Not sure what is going on here should I just replace the seal? And go from there. Also I noticed while investigating that the front sprocket has a little play in it not a lot just a tiny bit could that have caused the chains to prematurely snap. the sprocket does not appear to be worn.

I am Not sure if there is another problem going on behind That seal. Could the chain just have bumped the lifter rod and enough to cause it to leak?

In you original post you say after the chain broke and you looked down and oil was pouring out, oil won't just start pouring out from the seal if it wasn't leaking before

It wasnt leaking before the chain snapped..the chain breaking and oil leaking are directly related somehow..it has never leaked any fluids before

Does it still leak or haven't you run it since the chain broke?

I haven't bought another chain yet because I don't want the same thing to happen again..
I want to find the reason for the chain snapping..I did start the bike up after I put the lifter rod back in it and it did not leak any more oil.. Maybe the chain tweaked the rod enough to cause it to leak out the seal? But that is definalty where the oil lwas leaking from originally.

Does anyone have any reccomendations for another chain..eBay has them for like 30$ however that may be the reason it originally broke..it was one of those master link chains and that is where it broke. Honda will sell me a chain for 90$ and saod that it is a riveted chain an
    d better quality?

Put shit chains on and you will get shit results. Good quality chain and master link is fine, you are only talking a 500 here

The Clutch Push Rod arm Oil Seal is in that location, if it goes you have to split the engine to fit a replacement. The oil seal itself is an inexpensive item but a lot of work to fit. I had this happen to the VF500 I owned a few years back. I was able to ignore it for a while but the issue gradually worsened.
