1985 vf700f missing parts

    alrightbguys im a bit of a newb when it comes to engines but ive been rebuilding am 85 she was working fine when i got her. it was mostly cosmetic stuff and some minor things. well i got all that out of the way and then i lost my only set of keys (i know dumb mistake but i have a good excuse) well anyways long story short iwas just wondering if an 84 ignition switch and an 84 gas cap will fit on the 85 and work

    I'm pretty sure they work. Search on the parts diagrams at revzilla.com. They'll give you OEM part numbers to double check.

    Key number can be found under ignition lock, under filler cap, near helmet lock. Your nearby Honda 'cycle dealer can make you a new key for a reasonable cost. (My dealer, Hamburg Honda, does this for about $8 in a just a minute.) :eagerness:

    Honda key numbers are all similar to: D-40/C-51/B-34.....etc. Letter and 2 numbers.

    i was in the honda shop earlier and they told me the parts didnt match. i have the 84 ignition already but havent had time to check it in the bike

    The ignition was added by the previous owner. I never thought to Take it off. I'm more concerned about finding the key for the gascap. Because I can't get it open without it. My bike didn't come with a helmet lock.

    I have had this situation a number of times with lost cap keys, I drain as much fuel out as I can and take it to a locksmith to get it open, then you can decide your next move, he may even be able to cut you a key
