02-07 Any Differences? Now with 10% more questions, FREE!

I'm looking to buy a 6th gen and needed to know if there are any know issues on the early machines that are not on the later models. I'm finding some good deals on 02's, but I just don't want to find out "it's the year NOT to buy".

Virturally no difference with exception to the ECM programing for the '06 & '07 is different than the '02 - '05.

yep, but Honda got this one right from the get go. The motor is like the Nissan 3.5 V6, been around for ever and was a great design from the get go. Not much else you can mess up on a bike, Honda has the experience there as well. Good luck on your search.

On the 2006-2008 models, the VTEC transition has become more linear and the VTEC engagement is at 6400 rpm instead of 7000 rpm. For the most part, it is the same bike. I'd go with the best bike for the money. There's no need to shy away from any specific model year. Good luck and let us know what you get.

Make sure on 02-05 models the recalls have been done.

I friend of mine has an '02 and has had no problems after over 40,000 miles. It all depends on how well it has been cared for.

On this bike if I want to load up the tank bag and run this thing 100mph for 30-50 miles, are there any reasons outside the law that I may regret buying this bike? Oh yeah, I'm 6'2" 195

100 mph for 30-50 miles? The VFR likes to do 100mph for 300-500 miles. I've never met a VFR owner who regrets buying it.

The VFR is more than capable of going fast, getting there quickly and traveling long distances in relative comfort. It may only be an 800cc motorcycle but it has more than enough power to do anything anyone could want. The nice thing about the VFR is that most of the components, motor particularly, has been around and refined over the years by Honda to the point that the bike is darn near bullet proof on top of being vary capable in a wide variety of biking duties.

Glad to know this 800 will do it to it

I'm hip on the V4, I had an '83 V65 I bought in 2003 December and when I go done with it, it was beautiful. That old V4 had its quirks but it was strong. I should have know by now that it'd be bulletproof. On the forum some of those bikes had 100k on them.

Motorcycle Consumer News did a comparison between an 02 and an 07 vfr since honda was claiming there were differences. The dyno charts were identical. Make your decision based on color and turn signal lenses. You have nothing else to worry about.

There have been two recalls for my '02. Which ever one you get, take it to a dealer and check on its recall status.

If it doesn't, a simple and quick fix is to add 2 teeth to the rear sprocket. You can do this using the stock chain.

On mine the VTEC only kicks in, in top gear, at 100mph. It will run all day at that speed and want more. I am 5' 11" and about 200 lbs and have often used a tank bag with no noticeable effects.

I notice that you have an '00 GSXR750. Keep in mind that the VFR does NOT have the HP of your Gixxer. My friend has an '02 GSXR750 and it will out run the VFR - not by a ton, but it will. The difference is that the motor on the VFR is much more user friendly - tractable and usable. For me, it is more than enough motor, but I don't want you to be disappointed if you're expecting more than what you've currently got.
