The bike after riding it home all original, AZ stored over 20 years, 5k miles, orig tires with bad dry rot, fell over on the rt side while in storage but never crashed, all stock a great resto canidate. No rust or corrosion except on the sidestand foot. Engine as new spotless inside. Bike itself spotless after removing the protective dust layer off everything. I wanted a 87 because it had some updates over the 86 but I wanted RWB so a new rt fairing and paint, complete fuel sys overhaul tank cleaned new petcock all rubber replaced except diaphrams, carb sync, new spark plugs indexed, valve adj. with new valve cover gasket, tires, upgraded chain, forks rebuild and heavier fluid and seals, seat recover, added centerstand, alarm sys, seat cowl, silverstar h/lamp bulb, fork brace, gilano grips, throttle lock (cruise), front fender trimmed and redid in blue after painting red and not happy with the look, leds for tag lamp, ebc hh brake pads, fluids flush, new master cyl crstal sight glasses, k&n filter, new t/s signal rubber mounts, misc old rubber parts replaced, new aftermarket windscreen, cobra radar detector with compass/volt moniter, new larger motobatt, computer fan on regulator, mirror upgrade cbr's modded (lower wider lighter), inner fairing heat shields, fairing vent screens, magnetic drain plug mod, inner muffler baffles modded ( sounds nice) for stock cans, cleaned all elec connectors and fresh fusses. The expensive part was paint and decals/labels $600 and that was searching for the best deal on quality stuff and doing all my own work, all other stuff came to $1400 more, it adds up I had figured $1500 total rest cost but when I got going I added a few extras. There were no surprises so it wasn't bad, a fairly simple bike other than lots of body panels to prep and paint, I reinforced all known weak spots and refitted all pieces to my specs. It looks rides runs as new or better 3k miles so far after resto no issues runs flawless 53mpg hiway at 70mph. Engines is mechanicly silent (a virgin) except for cam gear whine that sounds nice with the exhaust mellow drone and intake growl with foam sound deadner removed from snorkle.
