LED's

Here is a front view of the LED's I installed. In the few weeks I have had these, it seems I am more "visible" to on coming drivers....and that has to be a good thing.

Hey Webbfire, any chance of giving us some close ups of the LED's, how ya went about fitting and wiring them and what brand they were? Would love to put them on my 02' model :)

G Day! EH! Sure thing about the pics and info on the LED's. If you check out my photo gallery you will see some of the pics I took as I installed the lights. My VFR is an 02 as well so the same pieces should work on yours as well. The LEDs are manufactured by Whelen and I purchased them from a company called Strobes N' More in the USA. These LEDs are very bright and are actually intended for use on emergency vehicles. They have built into them 10 different flash patterns and most importantly have a Steady- Burn feature which makes them street legal here in Canada...at least I haven't been stopped yet by any police I have driven by. I have yet to drive with them at night and wonder if they might be just a little too bright at night. I certainly am more noticeable with them on during the day. The nice thing about LEDs of course is they draw very little power so no special consideration for that is necessary. I did put 3A inline fuses on the power supply wire as recommended. The LEDs are self contained and all I needed was a short length of 1 1/2" aluminum , some extra wire, solderless connectors, two On / Off switches and some stainless steel bolts, washers and nuts. Other than having to completely disassemble the front end of the bike the installation was relatively easy. Instructions are easy to understand. If you use two LEDs as I did you just join identical wires with crimp connectors, the power supply wire gets connected to the On / Off switch which then connects to the positive battery terminal, the ground wire gets attached to the On / Off switch which then connects to the ground on the frame just behind the battery ( these connections may vary depending on the type of switch you use...mine had three connectors on each switch...one for power, one for ground and one for the LED ). The On / Off switch simply turns the LEDs on or off. The other On / Off switch is actually only used to toggle between the different Fash patterns and therefore I never really use it ... unless I am REALLY late for work! I chose these switches because they are round based ( easy to drill the hole ) , low profile, have a light to indicate when they are on and just look really good where they are on the bike. If you have any other questions or would like to see more pics just let me know. You can always email me as well at webbfire2004@yahoo.ca. The website for the LEDs is strobesnmore.com. I'm thinking of installing a red one in the rear with a brake modulator and possibly a blue one somewhere above the engine just for the fun of it! Good luck with yours! I should mention that the specific LED I used is the Whelen TIR 3 Ultra LED. They do have other types.
