Rick Maher's '99 VFR800 'Murphy'

This bike was featured in the April 2006 issue of Cycle Canada. Purchased in 2003, I spent almost two years rebuilding it - the bike has Marchesini wheels, 320mm full-floating Brembo front brake rotors, Ohlins suspension front and rear, and Aprilia mirrors with integrated signal lights.

what bike did you take the frontforks from. ?

      Tronic is wondering.

The forks are from an RC51 racebike

      Safe-T,

Still hate you. Best looking bike around, period.

OK, now that Murphy has been finished a while, how would you rate the new suspension?

Ride quality, ease of adjustment, setup, compliance, small and big pavement problems, etc.

Still adjusting my R1 forks and Ohilsn shock, looking for ideal?

The Ohlins stuff is stiffer, but also more compliant. A bump is still a bump, but you never seem to get a really harsh jolt. The best part is leaned over and hitting a bump mid-corner, where the Ohlins just shrugs it off.

I have never really done much to 'adjust' the bike. As it is I think it is a bit too much rigid up front and a little too soft in the rear. I am going to take a suspension clinic this spring/summer - I could continue to ride it as-is but it will be nice to have it fully sorted.

Your '93 is no slouch either :)
