Change of the cans

Decided to change the cans on this bike. My buddy suggested putting on R1 cans. So he adapted the cans to fit my bike. Cut off 3 inches, no packing, opened them up and cut holes to create a direct flow pattern. Then the welding began. The cans are made to be opened again, in case I want to make it softer in sound. The cans used the existing pipes off the engine and clamps to connect. Could not weld directly to them due to the material used and it made the weld crack. This is the only VFR found to have R1 mufflers on them. It looks like they are made for the bike. It increased the HP and torque of the bike. Also made the back end lighter. It is more responsive and hugs the roads so much better. Just have to get a power commander next to get better fuel economy again. If in the Raleigh area, I could hook you up with the guy who did them.

Nice work. At least you finished your job. I started a set of R1 cans last year but they are sitting in a box right now shortened and gutted. Never got around to welding them to a set of pipes. Your persistence is commendable. If you would like, check out the mufflers that I made using 16 inch tapered mufflers and the R1 heat shields. There should be photos in my gallery.

That looks pretty good, i like it. I'm going to work up something on my 01, maybe a custom undertail from a CBR exhaust i just got... Oh and by the way i don't think you are the first... theres a guy i met at a rally last Aug in Washington, who is from Cananda "12 volt terry" who is on the VFRD list who has an R-1 custom exhaust thats gorgeous and looks totally different.
